Apple iPhone Signal issues : Poll

Have you suffered signal loss or call drop outs with the Apple iPhone 4? Vote now:

As a sidenote; do you think the whole issue is people jumping on the bandwagon? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

Another day, another case

After DODO announced the amazing DODOcase I did wonder when people would copy the idea for the iPhone 4.

Well it appears Pad & Quill now have a 'Little Black Book'. Available for only $39.99 it does look amazing, but maybe a little too bulky for an iPhone case?

Do you have the DODOcase or the 'Little Black Book'?

BBC iPhone App's

It's been available in the US for some time, but finally the BBC have launched the BBC News app for the iPhone and iPad.

The free to download app has been delayed while the BBC Trust, the corporation's governing body, assessed the proposals and their impact on the rest of the industry.

The app includes updated news stories as well as live video streaming access to the BBC News 24 channel.

Whilst the app's launched today are only for Apple's iPhone and iPad's other devices such as Andriod based devices wil be available later in the year as will similar apps such as BBC Sport and iPlayer.

The BBC News app is now live in the App Store - http://bit.ly/b32zc8 (iTunes Link)

Gowalla or FourSquare?

Location based social networks are becoming extremely popular with two clear leaders, Gowalla and FourSquare.

My personal choice is Gowalla, why? Because Gowalla requires you to actually be in the location you are checking in to. With FourSquare you can check in to any location, either the other side of the world if you choose.

The idea behind FourSqaure is simple, check in the most times to a location and become a the 'Mayor'. Should someone else check in more times, you loose your mayor-ship. Gowalla on the other hand requires you to check in to locations and collect stamps, pins and badges. Stamps are simply awared when you check in to a location. Pins are awarded for completing certain tasks. For example; checking in to 25 coffee shops. Randomly you will be awarded with badges to collect or swap with other badges. Currently there are 138 to collect. Some badges are specialised to a current event or location. This gives Gowalla the edge over FourSquare as you have additional reasons to go out and explore. The main reason behind both of these apps.

Both of these applications allow you to upload your location details to FaceBook and Twitter, though this isn't something I do as it can swamp your feeds.

Currently FourSqaure is leading in the number of users and checkin's but I expect this to change when people start to get bored of the continued cheating that happens at FourSquare. Look at this guy for example.

Recently Gowalla started to allow users to upload photos along side checkin's. My main issue with this is you have to take the photo at the time you upload, you can not use a photo in your library or upload at a later date, for example; when you are back home. Fingers crossed this will change.

You can use Gowalla on the iPhone, iPad, Andriod and Blackberry devices.

Why not have a look at Gowalla? And add me as a friend if you like.

I'd be interested to know what are you currently using and why? Leave a comment below.

Antenna-gate

As company that prides itself on suprior quaility and design, do you think the iPhone 4 antenna issue is going to effect Apple's future sales or expectations?

The iPhone 4 launched to the usual fanfare, but peoples user experiences soon started to show issues in the new design. Was this move by Apple to provide design over functionality or simply a step too far in terms of technology.

In terms of the signal display, surely this area of the software hadn't actually changed that much between iPhone versions. Whilst I understand the display has no effect on call drop outs, did they really need to rush out an update that simply changes the way the single is reported? How many of us look at the signal just before we are about to make or receive a call? Its not something I personally look at.

As a result of these issues, Apple had to come out and explain the whole situation to the mass-market. What disappoints me is the way Apple has handled the situation. Why do a direct compassion against other manufactures. That's not the way I expect Apple to react. Further information can be found here http://www.apple.com/antenna/

Apple will not recall the iPhone 4 and as a result have offered for a short period of time a free case or bumper worth £25. The question has be raised. What happens after September 30th when cases are no longer supplied free of charge. Will there be an iPhone 4.5 launched with a hardware modification or will Apple expect its loyal customer base to purchase a case. Only time will tell.

What are your thoughts?
